Resident Camp |
Ray's
Splash Planet |
At Weblos Resident Camp we got to go sleep in the adirondacks in boy scout world. We go to do forester, engineer, highland games, and we also got to take down the tents that we had to sleep in at Boy Scout World. The food that we ate was finger food because we had to eat with no silverware. We also got to eat on the table on Saturday night because they called it the King's feast. By JM-Gecko Patrol |
It was January 17, 2009 and the Webelo 1, Gecko Patrol, met at Matthews United Methodist Church to travel to Ray's Splash Planet in Charlotte, NC. Besides having a ton of fun, we went there to earn our Swimmer's Achievement Pin. When we got there, our eyes were glued to the giant swimming pool, the vortex pool, the lazy river, and the huge water slide, the water slide was my favorite part of my trip. When we finished playing, we went to the bus, had our lunch, and went back to the church in Matthews. It was a huge blast, especially being able to swim in the middle of winter. By MD-Gecko Patrol |
McAlpine
Park Bike Ride |
Hiddenite
Gem Mine |
Our bike trip was very awesome. We rode at McAlpine Greenway Park. Everybody met at the Sardis Road entrance and when everyone was there, we left as a group. The total distance was just over 8 miles. We stopped a couple of times to talk about First Aid for our Readyman Activity Pin. It was good thing because James got a little dehydrated so we stopped and gave him some water and a little time to cool off. It was the most awesome bike trip in the world. By NH-Gecko Patrol |
When my patrol went camping we went to a gem mine in Statesville. We did all sorts of cool stuff there. We panned for gems for about 30 minutes. We also went into a creek that was so cold we almost got hypothermia. I brought back a whole bag of rocks and gems that I found on the trip. I found blue quartz, sulfur, iron pyrite, rose quartz, and other cool rocks. It was fun and we earned our geologist pins. We had an awesome time camping together. By CW-Gecko Patrol |
Schiele
Museum |
The
Sword Fight |
| The
trip to the Schiele Museum was great. For example, at the Schiele musam
we did lots of fun stuff like some of the stuff below. While there we went
and looked at a bunch of cool and neat animals. Also, we made a small mini
movie with puppets "that was alot of fun". Some of the displays
were incredible - they almost looked real. So that is my brief summary on
what we did at the Schiele museum. by CS-Gecko Patrol |
At Belk Scout Camp, the most exciting event for me was the sword fight between the two knights. They engaged in a fierce battle. There were many breaks because Sir William's helmet kept popping off. At one point Sir William got cut on his face. Sir William was carried away by the chariot, which was the golf cart. Then the Black Knight arrived and battled with Sir Fix-A-Lot out in the field by the rock climbing wall. Everyone ran to watch and the battle did not last very long. The Black Knight won and rode off on his golf cart and Sir Fix-A-Lot followed close behind. by JH-Gecko Patrol |
Hiddenite
Gem Mine |
Spencer
Train Museum |
We
woke up early to leave from our house to drive to the church to meet my
patrol. From there we drove about an hour to the Hiddenite Gem Mine. The
mine was really fun because we got to look for rocks; all different shapes,
sizes and colors. I found micah, rose quartz and many other types of rocks.
After we set up the camp and looked for rocks, we had delicious cheeseburgers,
grumpy old commissioner potatoes, and chocolate cake. I was full! I liked
spending time with my patrol. I fell asleep at about 12 a.m. The next
morning, we took apart the tents and loaded up in the car. We had another
hour-long trip home. In the middle of the drive, we stopped at McDonlads
and I had two McGriddle breakfast sandwiches and an orange juice. It tasted
great. I had a fun time with my leaders and patrol at the Hiddenite Gem
Mine. |
Matt’s dad drove the church bus to the Spencer Train Museum. We got to choose where we sat and I sat next to my best friend Jordan. When we got to the Spencer Train Museum we ate lunch. Then we rode a train that got pretty fast. After the train ride we got a tour. On the tour one thing we learned that France gave us the first steam train. Next we rode a turn table. When we completely finished Mr. Brad passed out patches. On the way back home we all worked on a sheet called Choose to Refuse Drugs. The trip was great! by
